Earlier this week, through a Facebook post, the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office confirmed their officers along with Texas state troopers fired shots at a 15 year old migrant child, allegedly following a chase that started in Brackettville, Texas.

This violent incident involving a child took place in the high tension environment created by Governor Abbott’s Operation Lone Star (OLS), an illegal program that incites dangerous anti-immigrant sentiment and white supremacist rhetoric.

Since December, advocates have submitted multiple complaints to your office with sufficient evidence about the civil rights abuses and discrimination occurring under OLS. Communities and migrants at the border do not have any more time to spare. The collective safety of the border community and migrants is on the line.

DOJ, I urge you to initiate an immediate investigation into Operation Lone Star NOW!"
